We are developing a commercially scalable, new environmentally sustainable textile out of waste banana stems. This new textile with have a minimal environmental footprint and will enable small scale banana farmers to earn an additional income (estimated increase of 6.5%[1]).
We will work with organic certified small scale banana farmers in Kerala. These farmers would benefit from processing banana stems into a sellable fibre.
We are currently researching the needed technology to extract a thin enough fibre to blend with cotton.
