We are fighting poverty in the marketplace by developing a new retail cooperative.
Working with YMCA residents we are adding value to the conventional retail model by providing them with practical skills and experience in running their own social enterprise. By trading ethical products they can also learn about the issues producers face in the supply chain and in supporting the producers support themselves.
Participants will be trained in basic business, budgeting and marketing skills. They will also build confidence in advocating on the reasons for buying ethically traded goods and have a greater understanding of global issues.
Once each group has become self-sufficient, the trained residents can become trainers for new groups, passing on training and skill development to new participants.
